EMMITSBURG, MD. – Behind a career-high 22 points from freshman
Danielle Williamsen, Marist women's basketball started MAAC play at 1-0 with an overtime road victory over Mount St. Mary's, 61-50, to open conference play inside Knott Arena Thursday evening.
Along with Williamsen's 22 points,
Morgan Lee and
Lexie Tarul added 16 points apiece in the victory.
With the win, Marist improved to 6-5 on the season and 1-0 in the MAAC, while Mount St. Mary's fell to 2-7 on the campaign and 0-1 in conference play.

The Red Foxes got off to a blistering start, using the opening four minutes of the contest to jump out to a 12-2 advantage behind five points apiece from
Morgan Lee and
Lexie Tarul.
However, the Mountaineers flipped a switch defensively and closed the quarter with a 10-1 run to trim the Marist lead to 13-12 entering the second.

The Red Foxes held the Mount scoreless over the first six minutes of the second quarter, stretching the lead to 17-12 during that span. However, the Mount responded with a 6-2 stretch to nearly close the quarter.
Catie Cunningham stopped the bleeding and drilled a mid-range jumper at the buzzer to give the Red Foxes a 21-18 lead into the half.
The two sides were even through the entire way of the frame, scoring 13 points apiece.
Danielle Williamsen scored on a floater at the buzzer to give the Red Foxes a 34-31 lead into the fourth.
The Mount opened the fourth with an 8-1 run to push ahead 39-35 with 6:29 left in regulation. However, the Red Foxes responded with five straight points behind a three-pointer from
Lexie Tarul and a mid-range jumper from Williamsen to put Marist ahead by one.
After the Mountaineers pulled ahead 44-40, Williamsen drilled a deep three in front of the Marist bench to cut the deficit to one.
Trailing 45-43, Lee received a pass underneath the basket and finished the layup to tie the game with 25 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.

The Red Foxes opened overtime with a swift 5-0 run to jump ahead 50-45 a minute into the period. Marist never looked back, holding the Mount to just five points in the period, as the Red Foxes cruised to the 61-50 overtime win.
