Women's Hoops Heads to Buffalo for Thursday Matchup With Canisius

Red Foxes Open Buffalo Trip With Golden Griffins

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Marist women's basketball team continues MAAC play on Thursday, as the Red Foxes travel to Buffalo to open the weekend against Canisius. Tip-off from the Koessler Athletic Center is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • Senior Zaria Shazer scored a team-best 12 points to lead Marist women's basketball, however, it wasn't enough in the Red Foxes' defeat at home against Iona, 62-53, Saturday evening inside McCann Arena.
  • Lexie Tarul added 11 points Tarul knocked down three three-pointers in the process
  • Morgan Lee contributed nine points, three blocks, and a career-high 10 rebounds
  • Kiara Fisher added nine points, six rebounds, and five assists in the contest.
 
THE MAGIC NUMBERS
  • Despite struggling to score in games this season, Marist has found success when reaching the 70-point threshold.
  • The Red Foxes are 2-0 when scoring 70 or more points in a game this season.

  • Fisher's 5.0 assists is a career-high for the senior.
  • Fisher's 5.0 assists per game would lead the MAAC if she qualified.

  • In that game, she went 16-for-16 from the charity stripe, setting the program record for most made free throws by a player in a game.
  • Fisher is averaging 12.6 points per game for her career, which ranks just outside of the top-10 all-time in program history.
 
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIFFINS
  • Canisius is led by Sahar Nusseibeh, who boasts 27 wins in her third season with the Golden Griffins.
  • Canisius enters the matchup at 12-10 on the season and 7-6 in the MAAC.
  • The Golden Griffins are 1-3 in their last four games.
  • Canisius was downed by Mount St. Mary's on the road, 70-56, in its last time out on Feb. 10.
  • Sisi Eleko leads the Golden Griffins at 15.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.

  • The Red Foxes will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 17, when Marist continues MAAC play on the road against Niagara.
