Marist Softball Earns Two Victories

Red Foxes Topple Houston Christian & Abilene Christian

ABILENE, Texas – The Marist softball team earned a pair of victories on Saturday in the Abilene Christian Tournament.
 
The Red Foxes used a six-run top of the first en route to a 6-3 win over Houston Christian in their first game of the day. In its second game, Marist overcame a three-run deficit with six out to go in a 4-3 triumph over host Abilene Christian.
 
Marist now stands at 2-2 on the season.
 
Game One
  • The Red Foxes struck for six in the top of the first as the first six Marist hitters reached safely. Miah McDonald's triple scored Peyton Pusey. McDonald later stole home. Isabella Manory's single brought home Maddie Pleasants. Haley Ahr scored on a wild pitch. Manory came home on a single by Taylor Anderson. Alyssa Grupp came home on a throwing error.
  • Houston Christian scored single runs in the second, fourth, and fifth.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, the Huskies had the tying run at the plate with one out. Manory then threw out a runner trying to steal third. Sophia Recrosio then snagged a line drive in right field to end the game.
  • Marist had 13 hits. McDonald, who had two in the first inning, had three, along with Ahr and Recrosio.
  • Anna Sidlowski went the distance in the circle for her first collegiate win. Sidlowski struck out four.
 
Game Two
  • Abilene Christian scored twice in the bottom of the first, and added another in the second.
  • Marist knotted the game with a three-run top of the sixth. Sophia Recrosio drew a leadoff walk, and Anna Sidlowski followed with a double. Miah McDonald's sacrifice fly brought home Recrosio. After a single by Maddie Pleasants, Haley Ahr's two-run double brought home Sidlowski and pinch-runner Peyton Pusey.
  • In the seventh, Ronni Howard led off with a double, advanced to third on a groundout, and scored the eventual winning run on a wild pitch.
  • Kiley Myers went the distance for her first win of the season. Myers recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts, and shut out Abilene Christian over the final five innings while allowing just four baserunners in that time.
  • Sidlowski finished with two doubles, and McDonald had two stolen bases.

  • Marist closes out play in the Abilene Christian Tournament on Sunday morning.
