AMHERST, Mass. – Joshua Balcarcel totaled three goals for a hat trick and added five groundballs as Marist men's lacrosse came up short on the road at UMass, 18-11, Tuesday afternoon on Garber Field.
With the loss, Marist dropped to 2-1 on the campaign, while UMass improved to 2-1 in the 2024 season.

- Collin Patrick and Vinny Butrico scored back-to-back goals to put the Red Foxes ahead 2-0 to open the contest.
- The Minutemen responded with three straight goals to push ahead 3-2.
- Drew Anderson broke the scoring drought, scoring an unassisted goal to knot the contest at 3-3.
- After falling behind 4-3, Sam Ferrel found Christian Colantonio to tie the contest at 4-4 late in the frame.

- After UMass pushed ahead 5-4, Ferrel came back and scored an unassisted goal to knot the match at 5-5.
- The Minutemen scored six straight goals to carry an 11-5 advantage into halftime.

- The Red Foxes came out firing in the second half with Joshua Balcarcel and Sean Mullan scoring back-to-back goals to trim the deficit to 11-7.
- UMass responded with five goals to take a 16-7 lead into the fourth.

- Patrick and Ferrel scored a goal apiece in the fourth, while Balcarcel scored two of his own, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit as UMass held on for the eventual 18-11 victory.
