POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Lengthy scoring droughts doomed the Red Foxes, as the Marist women's basketball team came up short at home, 72-57, Thursday evening inside McCann Arena.
With the loss, Marist fell to 5-20 on the campaign and 3-12 in the MAAC, while Mount St. Mary's improved to 11-14 overall and 8-8 in conference play on the 2023-24 season.

The Mountaineers came out on fire, knocking down five of their first 10 shots to jump out to a 13-5 lead at the media timeout with 4:21 left in the first quarter. However, the Red Foxes closed the frame with a 13-5 run, capped by a
Kiara Fisher three-point play to knot the score at 18-18 entering the second.
The Red Foxes were held to just one point over the first 3:42 of the frame, while The Mount extended its lead to 28-19 during that span, forcing a Marist timeout.
The Red Foxes were held to five points in the quarter as Mount St. Mary's took a 37-23 advantage into halftime.

The Mount opened the second half with a swift 7-2 run to force a Marist timeout trailing 44-25 with 7:11 left in the third. Mount St. Mary's kept its foot on the gas, outscoring the Red Foxes 23-11 in the quarter to take a 60-34 lead into the fourth.

Marist was able to cut the deficit to as low as 15 points, but the gap proved to be too large to overcome as the Red Foxes eventually fell, 72-57.

- Zaria Shazer led the Red Foxes with 13 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double
- The double-double was her ninth double-double of the season and 18th of her career
- Jackie Piddock added 11 points off the bench
- It marked Piddock's seventh game reaching double-figure scoring this season
- Julia Corsentino tallied nine points in the loss, while Ciara Croker totaled eight points of her own in the loss.
- The Red Foxes will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 24, when Marist continues MAAC play on the road against Rider.
