Softball Extends Win Streak to Six Games

Red Foxes Score 22 Runs in Two Games Against Hampton & FDU

HAMPTON, Virginia - Marist softballopened a five-game weekend on Friday with two wins against Hampton and FDU at the Hampton & Norfolk State Classic.
 
Marist won their first game against Hampton 9-2, and then mercy-ruled FDU in its second game, 13-0 in five innings.
 
The Red Foxes have extended their win streak to six straight, and they are now 8-4 on the season.
 
Game One
 
  • Marist opened up scoring in the top of the second. Haley Ahr led off with a single and scored on a two-out Anna Sidlowski triple.
  • Peyton Pusey opened up the third inning with a double. Pusey advanced to third and scored on an error off a Miah McDonald ground out.
  • In the top of the fourth, Alyssa Grupp led the inning off with a walk. After bringing in pitcher Jordyn Scott, Hampton committed two errors leading to runs. Grupp stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. Sidlowski and Lauren Morrell reached base on two consecutive errors, allowing Grupp to score. Sophia Recrosio singled to load the bases. Sidlowski scored on a Pusey sacrifice fly.
  • Marist continued to take advantage of Hampton fielding errors in the sixth inning. Isabella Manory led off with a walk and scored on an error which allowed Morrell to reach first. Morell scored on a triple off the bat of Pusey, putting the Red Foxes up 6-0.
  • The Red Foxes added three additional runs in the seventh. Peasants opened the seventh with a double. Ronni Howard pinch ran for Peasants and scored off a Grupp single. Ahr reached base after getting hit by a pitch then scored off a Manory single. Grupp scored on a fielders' choice which allowed Sidlowski to reach first.
  • Hampton scored twice in the seventh, however Marist secured the 9-2 win.
  • Kiley Myers pitched a complete game and picked up her third win of the season, recording a career high 11 strikeouts with just four hits and two walks.
  • Pusey led Marist with two RBIs, going 2-for-3 with two extra-base hits (double and triple).
 
Game Two
 
  • Marist opened the game with a four-run first. With two outs, Pleasants opened the scoring with a solo home run. Ahr scored on a Grupp RBI single, Grupp then scored on Rowan Drew RBI double. Drew capped off scoring in the first with the fourth run off Kaitlyn Husic's RBI triple.
  • The Red Foxes added another run in the third. Pleasants led off with a walk, Morrell pinch ran for Pleasants then scored on an Ahr RBI double.
  • Marist hammered in the runs column in the fourth inning, scoring six runs. Miah McDonald's three-run home run brought in Anderson and Pusey, who both reached base on singles. Howard's RBI double drove Ahr and Pleasants home. An RBI groundout off the bat of Kaitl scored Howard.
  • McDonald led the Red Foxes against FDU with a home run and four RBIs.
  • Ahr went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.
  • Anna Sidlowski recorded her fourth win of the season, giving up just two hits in four innings with zero walks. Sidlowski and Isabella Milazzo combined for the shutout, with Milazzo tossing a scoreless fifth.
 
Stats
  • Marist scored 22 runs on the day with 10 extra-base hits.
  • Nine different players recorded an RBI on the day (Drew, Husic, Howard, Grupp, Pleasants, Pusey, McDonald, Ahr, Sidlowski).
