Softball Sweeps Bethune-Cookman

Red Foxes Have Won Four Straight & 15 of Their Last 16

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida – The Marist softball team swept a doubleheader at Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday. The Red Foxes won a pair of one-run games as they prevailed by scores of 6-5 and 1-0.
 
Marist now stands at 17-5 this season. The Red Foxes have won four straight, and 15 of their last 16.
 
Game One
  • Marist scored three in the top of the first. Samantha Rogers' bases-loaded walk forced home Alyssa Grupp. Maddie Pleasants and Rowan Drew then scored on an error.
  • The Red Foxes extended their lead to 5-0 in the second. Miah McDonald's RBI double brought home Grupp, and then McDonald came home on an RBI double by Drew.
  • Bethune-Cookman scored four times in the bottom of the third. The Wildcats then tied the game with a single run in the fourth.
  • Pleasants' two-out RBI single in the sixth brought home Peyton Pusey with what proved to be the winning run.
  • Grupp finished with two hits and two runs scored.
  • Pleasants went the first five innings for the win, and she had five strikeouts. Kiley Myers earned the save with two scoreless innings, and she pitched a 1-2-3 seventh.
 
Game Two
  • The game remained scoreless until the top of the sixth, when Pleasants' RBI single brought home Pusey with two outs.
  • Anna Sidlowski made the run stand up with her second shutout in as many days. Sidlowski pitched a five-hitter, walked just one, and struck out two as she needed just 94 pitches to get through seven innings.
  • Marist outhit Bethune-Cookman, 8-5. Isabella Manory went 2-for-3.
