Softball Drops Two Games

Red Foxes Conclude Spring Break Trip with 7-4 Record

MORAGA, California – The Marist softball team fell to both North Dakota State and Saint Mary's in the Saint Mary's Round Robin on Saturday.
 
The Bison recorded a 2-0 victory over the Red Foxes in the first game of the day, and the Gaels defeated the Red Foxes 12-11 in eight innings.
 
The Red Foxes are now 18-8 on the season. Marist went 7-4 on its 11-game Spring Break trip in Florida and California.
 
Game One
  • Maddie Pleasants retired seven straight between the first and third innings. She held the Bison hitless for the first 3.1 innings, and struck out the side in the fifth.
  • Peyton Pusey started an 8-6 double play to get Marist out of the third, and threw a runner out at the plate in the bottom of the sixth.
  • The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth, when North Dakota State scored the only two runs of the game.
  • Miah McDonald had two of Marist's four hits.
  • Pleasants went the distance, allowed just three hits, and struck out five.
 
Game Two
  • Saint Mary's opened the scoring with three in the bottom of the second, but McDonald's solo homer in the third cut Marist's deficit to 3-1. However, the Gaels countered with one in the bottom of the third.
  • Marist took the lead with a six-run fourth, which included a three-run homer by McDonald and a two-run shot by Haley Ahr. However, the Gaels tied the score in the bottom of the inning.
  • The score remained 7-7 until the seventh. Anna Sidlowski's sacrifice fly brought home Pusey in the top half of the inning, but Saint Mary's tied the score in the bottom half.
  • Marist took an 11-8 lead in the top of the eighth on RBI doubles by Pusey, Pleasants, and Ahr, but the Gaels scored four in the bottom half to prevail.
  • McDonald finished 2-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored with the home runs in back-to-back innings.
  • Ahr went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. All three of her hits went for extra bases, with two doubles and a homer.
  • Pusey went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, an RBI, and two doubles.
  • Pleasants was 2-for-5 with an RBI, two runs scored, and a double.
 
Up Next
  • Marist returns home for the start of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play next weekend.
  • The Red Foxes will play a three-game series against Quinnipiac at Gartland Field. The Red Foxes and Bobcats will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon, followed by a single game on Sunday at noon.
