Women's Lacrosse Falls to Hofstra 14-10

Red Foxes Back in Action on Wednesday, March 13

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York -  The Marist women's lacrosse team fell to the Hofstra Pride 14-10 on Friday afternoon.

  • Hofstra opened the scoring early at 12:33 putting the Pride up 1-0.
  • The Pride taked on another with at 11:40.
  • The Red Foxes answered back with a goal from Kelly Trotta at 9:51 cutting the Hofstra lead down to 2-1
  • Hofstra then expanded their lead to 3-1 with a goal from Emily Weigand with 8:52 remaining in the first.
  • The Red Foxes immediately struck back with a goal from Kerri Gutenberger off the assist from Greta Govoni at 8:17, cutting the lead to 3-2
  • The Pride did not budge though, with a goal at 5:27 to put them up 4-2.
  • Hofstra continued their attack with a goal at 4:51, increasing their lead over the Red Foxes to 5-2, and marking a hat trick for Kerry Walser.

  • Kerri Gutenberger opened the scoring in the second quarter for Marist with a free-position goal at 13:22, her second of the game.
  • Midway through the second, Hofstra boosted their lead to 6-3 with a goal at 7:33.

  • Soon after the Pride increased their lead to 11-3 at 2:42.
  • With 1:44 left in the third, Kelly Trotta put Mairst back on the board cutting the deficit to 11-4, with Marist's first goal since 13:22 in the second.
  • Marist added another point to their column with a goal by Greta Govoni assisted by Olivia Arntsen at 0:57 cutting Hofstra's lead to 11-5.
  • Kerri Gutenberger scored her third of the game off of a pass from Arntsen with 0:16 remaining bringing Hofstra's lead to 11-6. This marks Gutenberger's third hat trick of the season.
  • With 3 quick goals at the end of the third, Marist carried some momentum into the fourth down 11-6.

  • The Pride quickly opened the scoring in the fourth quarter with two goals to put themselves up 13-6.
  • With 10:29 left in the fourth, Kelly Trotta scored off a free position shot, her third of the game, cutting the Pride lead to 13-7. This marks Trotta's third hat trick of the season.
  • Kerri Gutenberger scored her fourth of the game at 8:16 off the dish from Olivia Arntsen, cutting the Red Foxes deficit to 13-8. This marks Arntsen's third assist of the game, her season high.
  • The Pride then struck back with a goal at 6:03 bringing their lead to 14-8.
  • With 4:26 left in the fourth the Red Foxes tried to make a late game push with Greta Govoni scoring her second of the day, her first multigoal game of her collegiate career, making the score 14-9
  • Marist immediately struck again at 3:57 with a goal from Chloe Birckhead, bringing Hofstra's lead to only 14-10.
  • Despite a late game push from the Red Foxes, they fell just short losing to the pride 14-10.
