POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist men's lacrosse used an 8-2 run in the second quarter to propel the Red Foxes past MAAC foe LIU, 15-8, at home inside Tenney Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Red Foxes were led by
Sean Mullan,
Peter Murray, and
Joshua Balcarcel on offense, as the trio combined for nine goals and two assists for 11 points in the victory.
With the victory, Marist improved to 7-6 on the campaign and 4-4 in the MAAC, while LIU fell to 9-3 in the 2024 season and 6-2 in conference play.

- The Red Foxes struck first, as Sean Mullan scored his 13th goal of the season to put Marist ahead 1-0 early in the contest.
- Later in the frame, Peter Murray found the back of the net off the feed from Jake Deacy to double the lead to 2-0, before LIU immediately responded with its first goal of the contest with 2:47 left in the period.
- The Sharks added a second goal with 1:57 left in the frame to even the contest at 2-2.
- Mullan opened the scoring in the second, scoring an unassisted goal to put Marist ahead 3-2 before the Sharks responded with a goal of their own to tie the score at 3-3.
- The Red Foxes responded with three consecutive goals from Christian Colantonio, Michael Cassano, and Joshua Balcarcel to extend the lead to 6-3, forcing a LIU timeout.
- The Red Foxes stayed hot out of the timeout, receiving goals from Mullan, Collin Patrick, and Vinny Butrico to push its lead to 9-3.
- Leading 9-4, Murray scored his second goal of the game on a snipe from the left side of the net to give the Red Foxes a 10-4 advantage into the half.
- LIU struck first to open the second half, to trim Marist's lead to 10-5.
- However, Murray responded with his third goal of the game to extend the lead to 11-5.
- LIU nearly outscored Marist 2-1 the rest of the frame to cut Marist's lead to 12-7 entering the fourth, however, Mullan scored a goal to beat the buzzer to give Marist the 13-7 lead into the final frame.
- Joshua Balcarcel opened the fourth with a goal to push the Red Foxes lead to 14-7
- The deficit proved to be too much for the Sharks, as Marist held on for the 15-8 victory
- The Red Foxes will be back in action on Saturday, April 20, when Marist concludes regular season play on the road at VMI.
- The opening face-off is set for noon on ESPN+.
