Marist Women Strike Gold, Silver, and Bronze en route to NYS Championship Team Point Trophy

SARATOGA, New York - Marist women's rowing traveled to Saratoga, NY's Fish Creek this past weekend to compete at the NYS Championships. Marist boated a 1V8, 2V8, V4, and 2V4, and all crews had heats and finals. The crews rowed into a slight headwind that varied throughout the day.

The Varsity 8 consisted of coxswain Ariana Novero, Summer Starrett, Ashley Surette, Natalia Miklos, Gabrielle Insero, Avalon Johnson, Kaleigh Tompkins, Natalie Ronan, and Isabel Consavari. This crew was pleased with their heat after being able to row out in front for the entirety of the race. This allowed them to stay relaxed and gain confidence heading into the afternoon Grand Final.

In the final, this crew faced the other top finishers from the mornings heats which included Canisius, Colgate, Ithaca, Smith, and William Smith. Again, Marist got off to a good start, led wire to wire, and were able to execute each part of the race effectively aggressively for the full 2000m with a time of 7:52.005.

The 2nd Varsity 8 consisted of coxswain Carina Pascucci, Nora Messer, Kora Eckelman, Lillian Iannaccone, Katie Beichert, Abby Deane, Maria Belfakih, Rebecca Paul, and Jen Ligouri. Despite a less than ideal start, this crew rowed a strong race for the morning heats, battling with Hamilton for the full 2000m, finishing .9 behind them. This placed them into the Grand Final in the afternoon.

In the final, Marist faced Canisius, Colgate, Hamilton, Ithaca, and Smith. This crew improved on their start, which enabled them to establish a good rhythm. Battling with Hamilton and Smith from start to finish, Marist placed third with a time of 7:46.487.

In the Varsity 4 category, Marist entered two crews. The Varsity 4 A in the first heat consisted of coxswain Rebecca Robinson, Jess Zygmunt, Megan McGowan, Emily Liguori, and Jenna Jaffe. This crew got ahead of the field at the start and maintained their lead by setting a controlled and sustainable rhythm that they hoped to carry over in the Grand Final.

The Varsity 4 B in the second heat consisted of coxswain Juliette Savarino, Shelby McDougall, Lilly Green, Sydney Macchia, and Alex Gibeault. This crew also had a great performance in their heat, leading from start to finish. They came off the water feeling confident in their abilities heading into the Grand Final.
In the final, both crews represented Marist well. The A boat finished in second behind Colgate with a time of 8:41.835 and the B boat finished in 5th with a time of 9:07.419.
