McDonald Sets Program’s Single-Season Record for Homers as Marist Tops Saint Peter’s

Red Foxes Complete Series Sweep as Pleasants Homers in All Three Contests

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey – The Marist softball team prevailed at Saint Peter's by a score of 14-4 in six innings on Wednesday to complete a series sweep.
 
Miah McDonald set Marist's single season home run record. On the first pitch she saw with one out in the top of the first, McDonald belted her 16th home run of the season. This came a day after McDonald set the program's single-season record for RBIs.

  • Saint Peter's got one back in the bottom of the second as Kaitlynn Peter's sacrifice fly brought home Dakota Pitts.

  • Marist took back the lead with a seven-run top of the fifth. Samantha Rogers' two-run single, which brought home pinch-runner Lauren Morrell and Alyssa Grupp, put Marist back in front by a score of 4-3. The Red Foxes then received back-to-back RBI singles from Ronni Howard and Peyton Pusey, a sacrifice fly from Miah McDonald, and a two-run double off the bat of Haley Ahr.
  • Jess Forte's RBI single brought Saint Peter's to within 9-4 in the fifth.
  • Marist tacked on five more in the top of the sixth as five consecutive Red Foxes drove in runs. Isabella Manory had a squeeze bunt, Howard had an RBI single, Pusey belted an RBI double, McDonald laced an RBI single, and Ahr followed with another RBI single.

  • Marist pounded out 19 hits, its highest total in a game since 2022.
  • Every Marist starter had a hit, eight had multi-hit games, and Pusey led the way with four. Pusey was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
  • McDonald and Ahr each drove in three.
  • Pusey, Grupp, Manory, Howard, and Sophia Recrosio each scored twice.
  • Pleasants homered in her third straight game.
  • Marist tied a season high with 14 runs.
  • Kiley Myers went the distance for her 13th win of the season. Myers struck out six and walked just one.
