FAIRFIELD, Connecticut - The Marist softball team secured a doubleheader sweep against the Fairfield Stags on Friday afternoon. The Red Foxes erupted for a season-high 16 runs in game one, winning it 16-5 in six innings. The momentum carried into game two with
Peyton Pusey and
Kaitlyn Husic each smashing home runs to lead Marist to a 3-1 win.
With the victories, the Red Foxes solidified their spot as the top seed in the upcoming MAAC Championships tournament.

- Alyssa Grupp hit a single to start the top of the second inning. Sam Rogers and Ronni Howard drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Isabella Manory knocked in the first run of the day, scoring Grupp.
- Husic hit a sacrifice fly to bring in another run for the Red Foxes, giving Marist a 2-0 lead.
- Pusey led off the third inning with a double. McDonald followed with a single and a Fairfield error allowed Pusey to get home.
- After McDonald stole second, Haley Ahr hit an RBI single, increasing the lead to 4-0.
- A Maddie Pleasants single advanced Ahr to third and Grupp hit a sacrifice fly to bring in another run. Manory hit an RBI single, sending home the Red Foxes' sixth run of the game.
- The Stags used four hits to score four runs in the bottom of the third to get within two. Fairfield added another run in the bottom of the fourth, making it 6-5.
- Rogers crushed a three-run home run to left-center to get the scoring started in the top of the fifth. Ronni Howard followed it up with a home run of her own, increasing the Red Foxes' lead to 10-5.
- Marist added two more runs in the inning, pushing the lead to 12-5. Pusey stole home as McDonald stole second, followed by McDonald getting home due to a Fairfield error at short.
- Rogers and Howard drew back-to-back walks again for Marist in the top of the sixth. Isabella Manory collected her third RBI of the game with a single to left center.
- Husic followed it up with an RBI double. Then Miah McDonald brought home Manory and Husic in with a double of her own, extending the Red Foxes' lead to 16-5.
- Kiley Myers went the distance with the victory, improving her record to 15-6 on the season.
- After drawing a lead-off walk, Pusey stole second, and then a single by McDonald pushed her to third. The Red Foxes executed a double steal, with McDonald advancing to second and Pusey scoring at home to go up 1-0 in the top of the first.
- Pusey hit a solo home run over the right field fence in the top of the fifth to make it 2-0.
- A Husic home run to left field gave the Red Foxes a 3-0 lead in the top of the seventh.
- The Stags scored one run in the bottom of the seventh.
- Anna Sidlowski pitched the entirety of game two, picking up her 15th win of the season.
- Marist improves to 36-16 overall, 17-5 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
- Fairfield falls to 13-33 on the season, 9-14 in conference play.
- Marist will be back at Fairfield tomorrow, May 4 for the series finale.
- First pitch is set for noon.
