Red Foxes Head to NJIT for Thursday Match on ESPN+

NEWARK, NJ – Marist women's soccer continues its 2024 non-conference campaign with a road contest against NJIT on Thursday, August 22. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. from Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • Marist opened its 2024 slate with a 2-1 loss on the road against BIG EAST foe Seton Hall
  • The Red Foxes were led by graduate student Maille McDermott, who scored the lone Marist goal
  • Gabby Tirado was credited with the assist on the score
WHO ELSE BUT MAILLE
  • Graduate student Maille McDermott scored the first goal of her collegiate career in Marist's opener at Seton Hall
  • A former Pirate, McDermott spent four years as a member of the Seton Hall women's soccer program
  • McDermott's goal came on a header in the box from a corner kick off the foot of Gabby Tirado. McDermott tracked the ball in the box and headed it home to give Marist a 1-0 lead in the contest.

SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS
  • NJIT enters the contest at 0-1 after falling against Rutgers in its opener on August 15, 1-0
  • The Highlanders were voted sixth out of nine America East teams in the Preseason Coaches' Poll
  • Junior Briana Andreoli was selected to the 2024 America East Conference Women's Soccer Preseason All-Conference team
  • Andreoli, an America East first-team selection last season, played in all 19 matches (one of nine players to do so) while making five starts
  • Andreoli led the team with six goals while adding the first three assists for a team-high 15 points
HISTORY VS NJIT
  • Thursday's contest will mark the fourth contest between the two programs
  • Marist holds a record of 2-1-0 against NJIT
  • The last time the two squads faced off, NJIT came away with a 2-0 victory over Marist on August 30, 2017 in New Jersey
NEXT TIME OUT
  • The Red Foxes will be back in action on Sunday, Aug. 25, when Marist plays host to Bryant
  • The match is set to start at 1 PM on ESPN+ from Tenney Stadium
