Football Opens PFL Play by Hosting Dayton on Family Weekend

Red Foxes Open Eight-Game League Slate Saturday at Tenney Stadium

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist football team opens Pioneer Football League play on Saturday, as the Red Foxes host Dayton on Family Weekend. Kickoff at Tenney Stadium is set for noon.

  • Geoff Brault (play-by-play), Steve Eggink (analyst), and William Rosen (sideline) will have the call on ESPN+.

SEASON STATS
  • A safety has been Marist's leading tackler in every game this season, and it has been different player in each game (Kolbe Benham, 10 vs. Georgetown; Conor Fitzgibbon, 8 at Lafayette; Nick Vecchiarelli, 7 at Bucknell).
  • The Red Foxes have had a different leading rusher in every game this season (Carter James, 47 vs .Georgetown; Tristan Shannon, 35 at Lafayette; Lincoln Cardillo, 47 at Bucknell).
  • Marist has had a different leading receiver by yardage in every game this season (Jackson Conners-McCarthy, 75 vs. Georgetown; Jack Rilling, 58 at Lafayette; Mohamed Diawara, 125 at Bucknell).
  • There were 12 different Red Foxes who had a reception at Bucknell, up from nine at Lafayette and six against Georgetown.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Marist fell at Bucknell, 34-18, on Saturday, Sept. 21.
  • Wide receiver Mohamed Diawara set a career high with 125 receiving yards.
  • Marist had a season-high 435 yards of total offense.
  • Safety Nick Vecchiarelli led the Red Foxes with seven tackles.
 
MARIST IN THE PFL
  • Marist is 58-54 all-time in PFL play, having joined the league in 2009. Marist is 9-12 in September, 32-21 in October, 17-20 in November, and 0-1 in December.
  • Marist is 28-29 at home, and 30-25 on the road in PFL play.
  • Marist won a share of the PFL championship in 2013.
 
ABOUT DAYTON
  • The Flyers went 2-1 in non-league play, including an 18-10 win over Saint Francis in their season opener.
  • Dayton is coming off a 49-7 home victory over Ave Maria last week.
  • The Flyers were picked to finish sixth in the PFL Preseason Poll.
  • Center Dylan DeMaison and linebacker Aiden McKinley were named to the Preseason All-PFL Team.
  • Head coach Trevor Andrews is in his second season. Andrews is a 1998 Dayton who graduate who was a three-year letterwinner for the Flyers as a defensive back.
 
HISTORY VS. DAYTON
  • This is the 15th all-time meeting between the Red Foxes and Flyers.
  • The teams have met in every season the teams have competed since Marist joined the Pioneer Football League in the 2009 season.
