Football Falls to Dayton in First PFL Game

Record Crowd of 6,567 Attends Game at Tenney Stadium

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist football team lost its first Pioneer Football League game of the season to Dayton by a score of 47-14 on Saturday at Tenney Stadium on Family Weekend.

 
Summary
  • Dayton opened the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Drew VanVleet to Mason Hackett at the 12:18 mark of the first quarter to lead 7-0.
  • Marist tied the game at 7-7 on a seven-yard rushing touchdown by Sonny Mannino with 4:10 left of the first quarter.
  • With 9:19 left in the second quarter, VanVleet tossed another touchdown pass this time to Gavin Lochow to give the Flyers a 14-7 lead.
  • The Red Foxes tied the game at 14-14 on its ensuing drive on Mannino's 18-yard touchdown pass to Jack Melore at the 5:42 mark of the second quarter.
  • Dayton immediately answered on the second play of the next drive with a 69-yard touchdown pass from VanVleet to Luke Brenner to make the score 21-14 with 4:49 left of the second quarter.
  • The Flyers extended the lead to 24-14 on a 20-yard field goal from Danny Baker with 1:43 remaining in the second quarter.
  • Baker connected on another field goal from 23 yards out to push the lead to 27-14 in the final seconds of the first half.
  • Dayton opened the scoring in the second half with a 18-yard touchdown pass from VanVleet to Jake Coleman, the two-point conversion failed. The score went to 33-14 at the 6:43 mark of the third quarter.
  • The Flyers added a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
