Marist Football Opens 2024 Season Against Georgetown

Red Foxes, Hoyas to Kick Off at Noon Saturday at Tenney Stadium

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist football team will open the 2024 season on Saturday, when the Red Foxes host Georgetown at Tenney Stadium. Kickoff is set for noon.

How to Follow
  • Geoff Brault (play-by-play), Steve Eggink (analyst), and William Rosen (sideline) will have the call on ESPN+.
  • Game updates will be available on X via Marist Football (@Marist_FBall).

History
  • This marks the third straight season the Red Foxes are starting their season against the Hoyas.
  • The Marist-Georgetown rivalry dates back to 1994, when both teams were members of the MAAC Football League.
  • Marist has faced Georgetown (25th meeting) more than any opponent on this year's schedule. Since Marist became a varsity program in 1978, the only opponent the Red Foxes have faced more often is Iona (28 times).

New Era
  • Saturday's game marks the first for Mike Willis as Marist's head coach.
  • The fifth head coach in program history, Willis' hiring was announced on Dec. 19, 2023. He replaced Jim Parady, who was the longest-tenured active head coach in Division I at the time of his retirement (32 years), which occurred on Nov. 29, 2023.
  • At 32 years old, Willis is the third-youngest head coach in the Football Championship Subdivision.

Our Leaders

Marist in the NFL
  • Jason Myers, who played at Marist from 2009-12 and graduated in 2013, is entering his sixth season as the Seattle Seahawks' placekicker and 10th in the NFL.
  • Myers has earned two Pro Bowl selections in his career (2018, 2022).

About Georgetown
  • The Hoyas opened their season with a 46-24 home win over PFL Davidson last Saturday.
  • Three Hoyas (junior RS Nicholas Dunneman, graduate LS Sebastian Alonso, and junior DB Wedner Cadet) were named Preseason All-Patriot League. Georgetown was picked fifth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll. The Hoyas went 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the Patriot League last season. Rob Sgarlata is in his 11th year as head coach, and his association with the program spans nearly three-and-a-half decades.

Up Next
  • Marist plays its first road game on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 19th-ranked Lafayette of the Patriot League in the first meeting between the teams since 2008.
  • Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m.
