POUGHKEEPSIE, New York — The Marist women's volleyball team returned to the win column on Friday night, defeating Merrimack 3–1 (22-25, 29-27, 25-19, 25-23) at McCann Arena. The victory ended a two-match skid and improved the Red Foxes to 7–13 overall and 5–3 in MAAC play.
After dropping a tight opening set, Marist bounced back behind a balanced offensive attack and a strong defensive presence at the net. Sophomore Sara Dasic and senior Eleana Koute led the charge, each recording double-digit kills while combining for efficient hitting in the final two sets. Setter Claire Lewis guided the offense with 29 assists while adding timely service aces and key digs to keep rallies alive.
The Red Foxes' serve-receive and blocking units proved crucial down the stretch, highlighted by Cecilia Potter-Pessoa's steady play as libero and Mallory Reck's presence at the net. Marist closed the match by holding Merrimack to a .219 hitting percentage and forcing 24 attack errors.
Marist will look to carry the momentum into Saturday's matchup, as the Red Foxes stay home to host Quinnipiac at 6 p.m. inside McCann Arena.
