POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to five straight matches with a hard-fought 3–2 victory over Holy Cross Tuesday night at McCann Arena. The Red Foxes improved to 6–11 overall and 4–1 in MAAC play, while showcasing one of their most aggressive serving performances of the season.
Marist's service game was the difference, as the Red Foxes racked up 16 service aces, keeping Holy Cross on its heels throughout the match. Cecilia Potter-Pessoa led the charge from the service line, delivering six aces, while Claire Lewis and Caelyn Dumas each added three. The team's consistent pressure from the line helped Marist close out crucial points in the fourth and fifth sets.
Offensively, Sara Dasic and Mallory Reck paced Marist with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Sarah Bumstead distributed 25 assists, while Potter-Pessoa anchored the defense with 27 digs and several clutch passing runs that sparked momentum in key moments.
After taking the first set (26–24) Holy Cross rattled off wins in the second and third set (28-26, 25-17). Marist regrouped, taking the fourth set, 25-20 and then secured the match with dominant play in the decisive fifth set, 15–10.
The Red Foxes will look to continue their winning ways this weekend when they hit the road and continue MAAC play against Fairfield and Sacred Heart.
