Marist Comes Up Short Against Quinnipiac at McCann Arena

Tarul Scores 22 Points; Three Red Foxes Score in Double Digits

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist University women's basketball team fell 76-67 to Quinnipiac in a Sunday evening MAAC matchup at McCann Arena.

Senior captain guard Lexie Tarul led three Red Foxes in double digits, pouring in 22 points on 9-for-13 shooting. Freshman forward Justine Henry added 12 points, seven rebounds, and a career-high-tying four steals. Senior captain guard Jackie Piddock contributed 10 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

After trailing by as many as 22 points early, Marist cut the deficit to single digits multiple times behind Tarul's 16-point fourth quarter but could not get closer than seven.
 
FIRST QUARTER
  • Quinnipiac scored the game's first five points before sophomore guard Chloe Escanillas knocked down a 3-pointer for the Red Foxes.
  • The Bobcats utilized an 8-0 run to increase their lead to 13-3, forcing a Marist timeout at the 6:34 mark.
  • Quinnipiac extended its run to go up 25-3 before the Red Foxes closed on an 8-0 spurt as freshman forward Justine Henry and sophomore guard Danielle Williamsen knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers, while Tarul capped the run with a pull-up jumper to make it 25-11 after one quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
  • The Bobcats made four consecutive field goals to take a 37-18 lead at the 4:33 mark.
  • The Red Foxes trailed 41-26 at the half.
THIRD QUARTER
  • Marist trailed by as many as 18 but shot an efficient 7-of-12 in the frame, closing the quarter by making 5-of-7 field goals to get within 12 (58-46).
FOURTH QUARTER
  • Tarul knocked down back-to-back shots, one mid-range and one 3-pointer, to cut the deficit to single digits (61-53) and force a Quinnipiac timeout at the 6:17 mark.
  • The Bobcats utilized a 7-0 run over 1:05 to extend their lead to 70-55 with 4:07 remaining in the game.
  • Marist responded with an 8-0 run to bring it back to single digits (70-63) with 2:12 to go.
  • Quinnipiac held on to win it, 76-67.
