Baseball Drops Opening Day Doubleheader Against LIU And Wake Forest

McNelly Led the Red Foxes with a .444 batting in two games

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina- The Marist baseball team opened up its 2025 season with a doubleheader against two NCAA regional teams, Friday. The Red Foxes dropped the first two games of the season against LIU (6-3) and Wake Forest (11-4).

The Red Foxes moved to 0-2 on the early 2025 regular season.
 
Game One Vs LIU Summary
  • LIU took an early 3-0 lead in the top-half of the first inning on a three-run home run from Ryan Rivera.
  • In the bottom-half of the second inning, Zach Donahue recorded the Red Foxes first hit of the season on a single. Kyle Pollack followed Donahue with a second consecutive single, which put runners in scoring position.
    • The Red Foxes were held scoreless after the second inning of play.
  • After three innings of play, the Red Foxes trailed LIU 3-0.
    • Through the first three innings, the Red Foxes out-hit the Sharks 3-1.
  • LIU added to its lead in the top-half of the fifth inning, with a run on an RBI single from LIU's Sorensen.
    • After five innings of play, the Red Foxes trailed LIU 4-0.
  • In the top-half of the sixth inning, LIU scored a run to extend its lead on a solo home run from LIU's Durso. The Red Foxes trailed 5-0 after the sixth inning.

Game Two Vs 16 Wake Forest
  • In the top-half of the first inning, Noel Rivera reached base on a walk which got the Red Foxes started.
    • Rivera then advanced to second base on an error.
    • Lewis Rodriguez followed Rivera with an RBI single, which put the Red Foxes 1-0.
  • Riley Orr pitched a scoreless first inning with two strikeouts and the Red Foxes led 1-0 after one inning of play.
  • In the bottom of the second inning, Wake Forest gained the lead with three runs.
    • The Red Foxes trailed 3-1 after two innings of play.
  • In the top-half of the third inning, Noel Rivera once again reached base, this time with a double.
    • Once again, Rodriguez recorded an RBI single, bringing home Rivera, and cut into the Wake Forest lead 3-2.
  • Wake Forest struck in the bottom-half of the third with a run on a wild pitch.
    • After three innings, the Red Foxes trailed 4-2.
  • Wake Forest continued to add runs in the bottom-half of the fourth, scoring four runs.
    • The Red Foxes trailed 8-2 after four innings.
  • In the fifth inning, Zach Donahue got the Red Foxes started with a single.
    • Kyle Pollack continued the line with another single, which put runners at first and third.
    • Chris Diaz loaded the bases with a walk for the Red Foxes.
    • The Red Foxes would add a third run from an Aydan McNelly single, which scored Donahue, and cut into the Demon Deacons lead 8-3.
    • Later in the fifth inning, Kyle Pollack scored on an error which gave the Red Foxes a two-run fifth inning.
  • Wake Forest countered the Red Foxes with a solo home run, which gave the Demon Deacons a 9-4 lead over the Red Foxes after five innings.
  • The Red Foxes would be held scoreless for the remainder of the game, while Wake Forest added two runs in the seventh inning.
    • The Red Foxes fell 11-4 in the evening game of the doubleheader.
