WINSTON-SALEM, NC- The Marist baseball team played its fourth and final game of opening weekend, Sunday afternoon. The Red Foxes dropped its final game of the weekend to 14
th ranked Wake Forest 24-6.
The Red Foxes moved to 0-4 overall on the season.
- Wake Forest jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after a two-run single. The single was recorded by Wake Forest's Kade Lewis.
- In the bottom-half of the second inning, Wake Forest added to its lead with five runs. The Red Foxes trailed 7-0 after two innings of play.
- The Red Foxes would be held scoreless through the first three innings of the game. In the bottom-half of the third inning, Wake Forest added four more runs to its lead, which made an 11-0 deficit for the Red Foxes.
- In the top-half of the fourth inning, the Red Foxes scored three runs, which cut into the Wake Forest lead 11-3.
- Aydan McNelly recorded an RBI double which was scored by Kyle Pollack.
- McNelly later scored on an error, accounting for two of the Red Foxes' runs.
- Later in the inning, Chris Diaz tallied an RBI single, scoring Jason Claiborn and gave the Red Foxes their third run of the inning.
- In the bottom-half of the fourth inning, Wake Forest countered with four runs of their own.
- The Red Foxes trailed 15-3 after four innings of play.
- Wake Forest scored nine combined runs in the fifth and sixth innings, extending their lead over the Red Foxes 24-3.
- In the seventh inning, the Red Foxes scored three runs, falling short of a comeback against the 14th ranked team in the country.
- Chris Diaz recorded the Red Foxes first home run of the season on a solo home run.
- Later in the inning, Zach Donahue hit an RBI single that scored AJ Brotz, which cut into the lead 24-5.
- Aydan McNelly recorded his second RBI hit of the game, with an RBI single that scored Noel Rivera.
- The Red Foxes fell in seven innings to 14th ranked Wake Forest 24-6.
- Aydan McNelly went 2-4 with two runs batted in for the Red Foxes against Wake Forest.
- Chris Diaz also went 2-4 with two RBIs in the game.
- Diaz recorded his first career Red Foxes home run, and the first Red Foxes home run of the season.
- Zach Donahue went 2-4 with one run batted in for the Red Foxes.
