Four Red Foxes Reach Double Figures in Scoring in OT Victory at Canisius

Women's Hoops Opens Buffalo Trip With 69-62 Win Over Golden Griffins

BUFFALO, NY. – Four different Red Foxes reached double-figures in scoring, as Marist women's basketball downed MAAC foe Canisius on the road in overtime, 69-62, Thursday evening inside the Koessler Athletic Center.

Lexie Tarul led the way with 19 points, Jackie Piddock added 15 points, Morgan Lee notched 14 points, and Danielle Williamsen added 13 points of her own.

With the win, Marist improved to 13-12 on the season and 8-7 in the MAAC, while Canisius fell to 7-18 on the campaign and 6-9 in conference play.
 
FIRST QUARTER

The Red Foxes used the opening seven minutes of the contest to jump out to a 14-9 lead behind nine points from Morgan Lee during the stretch.
The Golden Griffins held Marist scoreless for the remainder of the quarter, trimming the Red Foxes' lead to 14-13 into the second.
 
SECOND QUARTER

The Red Foxes opened the second quarter with an 8-2 run, powered by back-to-back three-pointers from Lexie Tarul and Ciara Croker to extend the lead to 22-15.
After Canisius fought back to trim the Marist lead to 22-19, Danielle Williamsen stopped the scoring drought with a bucket through contact for a three-point play into the media timeout.
The Marist lead reached as high as 11 points, before carrying a 32-25 lead into halftime.
 
THIRD QUARTER

The Red Foxes came out firing to open the second half behind six straight points from Tarul to extend the lead to 38-25.
The Golden Griffins used the final 7:33 to outscore Marist 15-8, cutting the Red Foxes' lead to 46-40 entering the final quarter of play.
 
FOURTH QUARTER

The Golden Griffins opened the fourth with a swift 5-0 run to trim the Red Foxes lead to 46-45, forcing a Marist timeout with 7:27 left in regulation. Out of the timeout, Canisius continued its run to take a 52-50 lead. However, back-to-back three-pointers from Lee and Jackie Piddock gave the Red Foxes a 56-52 lead, forcing a Canisius timeout with 2:47 left in regulation.
However, Canisius closed the quarter with a 5-1 run to force overtime tied at 57-57.
 
OVERTIME

The Red Foxes opened the period with a three-pointer from Williamsen to put Marist ahead early in the frame.
Marist never looked back, cruising to a 69-62 overtime win on the road.

  • With the win, Marist has totaled 13 on the season, more than doubling last season's win total
  • The win marked the eighth MAAC victory of the season for the Red Foxes, doubling last season's MAAC total
