POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist University head football coach
Mike Willis has announced the addition of three coaches to his staff:
- John Audino will serve as running backs coach and special teams coordinator.
- Kevin Mill will be the Red Foxes' defensive line coach.
- Matt Josephson will be Marist's assistant defensive backs coach.
There will also be two returning coaches in different roles this season:
- Mike Horan will continue to serve as defensive coordinator and will add the title of outside linebackers coach. Horan served as defensive line coach and defensive coordinator last season.
- Vince DiMonte will be the inside linebackers coach. DiMonte served as safeties coach last season.
Audino comes to Marist with over four decades of coaching and administrative experience at the collegiate level, including a 24-season run as head coach of Union College from 1992 through 2015. He also served as head coach at Kean University from 1990-92, and he had most recently served as head coach at La Salle Institute since 2018. He held collegiate assistant coach positions at Columbia (2016-18, 1977-81), Albany (2016, 1976-77), Penn (1986-90), Union (1983-86), and Kentucky (1982-83).
"I am honored and excited to be a part of Coach Willis' staff at Marist University," Audino said. "It is a great professional opportunity for me and my family, and I look forward to many great years together and to making Marist University football the best team in the Pioneer League and one of the best in the FCS. To be a part of such a great University and academic institution is one of the proudest moments of my coaching career."
Audino led Union to 13 championships in his 24 seasons as head coach. The program made five NCAA playoff appearances and six ECAC appearances, capturing five ECAC championships. He also coached four Gagliardi trophy finalists, which is the Division III equivalent of the Heisman trophy.
?"I'm incredibly excited to add John Audino to our staff," Willis said. "John is a sharp special teams coordinator, a great offensive coach, and a diligent recruiter. Coach's decades of experience as a college head coach will also serve our program well on a daily basis. I am already enjoying learning from Coach Audino every day. I am equally thrilled to welcome Coach Audino's family to the Marist community. Marist got better today!"
Mill has 11 years of coaching experience covering both sides of the ball. He most recently served as offensive quality control coach and assistant offensive line coach at Yale. In the 2023 season, Yale won the Ivy League championships, and he coached 2024 third-round NFL Draft selection Kiran Amegadjie. He also coached at Trinity College (defensive line, 2020-23; tight ends & fullbacks, 2018-19) and Guilford College (offensive line, 2016-17; running backs/assistant special teams coordinator, 2014-15).
"I'm incredibly excited to be joining the Marist Football program as defensive line coach," Mill said. "I've been immediately impressed by the dedication and commitment of the student athletes here and with the culture that Coach Willis is building. It was clear from the moment I stepped on campus that Marist's commitment to athletic excellence is top notch. I look forward to working with an exceptional group of coaches and to helping our student athletes excel on and off the field!"
Mill played collegiately at Princeton as an offensive lineman from 2008-12, where he was a teammate of Coach Willis.
"I am fired up to welcome Kevin Mill to our staff," Willis said. "Kevin has been part of multiple championship programs at the high academic level. Kevin is a smart and dependable coach. He has a great track record as a national recruiter. Kevin is also an outstanding teacher of trench technique. Our defensive line is already benefiting from Coach Mill's expertise. Marist got better today!"
Josephson comes to Marist from Liberty, where he was a defensive graduate assistant who worked with the program's safeties in the 2024 season.
"I am fired up to join the Marist Football program," Josephson said. "I want to thank Coach Willis for giving me this opportunity to join his staff, and I can't wait to contribute and learn from a group of elite coaches. The vision he has for this program, and culture he is building made it such an easy decision. I'm grateful for my time at Liberty University' the coaches over there have prepared me tremendously for this opportunity. I'm eager to officially join the Red Fox family and look forward to winning football games next season!"
Josephson had previously worked at Coastal Carolina from 2020-24 as a defensive analyst (2024), defensive graduate assistant (2021-23) and student assistant (2020). He worked with the cornerbacks, outside linebackers, inside linebackers, and safeties during his tenure.
"I am excited to welcome Matt Josephson to our staff," Willis said. "Matt has northeast roots combined with relevant experiences from excellent programs. He brings terrific energy and enthusiasm to our team every day. Matt's fingerprints will be seen all over our secondary and his energy will be felt in our overall development efforts. Marist got better today!"
Marist will be entering its second season under Willis' leadership in 2025.
