Former Marist Baseball Star Ethan Conrad Selected in MLB Draft’s First Round

Chicago Cubs Choose Saugerties Native with 17th Overall Selection

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Outfielder Ethan Conrad, who starred for the Marist baseball team from 2023-24, was selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Sunday night. Conrad was chosen by the Chicago Cubs in the first round with the 17th overall selection.

Conrad is the first former Red Fox to be selected in the draft's first round. He played at Marist from 2023-24, and he enjoyed two outstanding seasons for the Red Foxes before playing the 2025 season at Wake Forest.

"Congratulations to Ethan and his family," Marist head coach Lance Ratchford said. "This is an incredible moment and opportunity ahead for him. His journey started here in a Red Fox uniform, and we are forever appreciative of his time here. We can't wait to see what the future holds as he begins his journey to the Big Leagues."

In 2024, Conrad led the NCAA triples (13), set the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's single-season triples record, and set the NCAA record for triples in a game with four at Saint Peter's on March 22. He was a MAAC All-Championship Team, First Team All-MAAC, and All-ECAC selection. He also earned two MAAC Player of the Week awards.

In 2023, Conrad burst onto the scene with a MAAC All-Rookie Team selection. He was also named the conference's Rookie of the Week twice.

In his two seasons at Marist, Conrad hit .359 with 12 home runs, 84 runs batted in, 90 runs scored, 27 doubles, 15 triples, and 38 stolen bases in 103 games played.

There have now been 21 players selected in the MLB Draft who have played collegiately at Marist.
