Red Foxes Extend Unbeaten Streak With 1-1 Draw at LIU

Ulaj Scores Lone Goal for Red Foxes

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Marist men's soccer team extended its unbeaten start to the season on Saturday night, playing LIU to a 1-1 draw at LIU Soccer Park.

The Sharks (2-0-4) jumped in front in the 29th minute when Maximilian Sommer finished off a pass from Francesco Chiappo to make it 1-0. Despite generating six first-half shots, the Red Foxes (3-0-2) went into the break trailing by one.

Marist equalized early in the second half. In the 61st minute, midfielder Arion Ulaj scored his first goal of the season, slotting home a feed from Kyle Evans to level the match at 1-1.

From there, the Red Foxes applied consistent pressure, outshooting LIU 14-6 in the second half and 20-12 overall. Gijs Verheul tested the Sharks' goalkeeper with three shots on goal, while substitutes Jonathan Salguero and Eric Moroz provided sparks off the bench with key chances.

In net, Jamie Lowell made three saves to preserve the draw.

The Red Foxes return home to Tenney Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 16, to host Lehigh in Marist's non-conference finale. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.

Quote From Coach

Really proud of the second half display. Tough place to play against a good team but once again we showed the steel that will help us during conference play. It was always going to be a tough opening stretch with four of five games on the road but I'm happy with where we are at. Looking forward to getting home and playing in front of our fans especially with conference play opening up next Saturday.
