Red Foxes Capture Two League Awards After Triumph at Wagner

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist University football team won two weekly awards from the Pioneer Football League following the Red Foxes' 21-10 triumph at Wagner on Saturday.

Nate Robinson Jr. was named Defensive Player of the Week, and Tristan Shannon won Special Teams Player of the Week.

Robinson finished with 10 tackles (four solo), two interceptions, and half-a-tackle for loss. His first interception came in the first quarter, just three plays after Marist had the game's first score. In the first quarter alone, Robinson registered six tackles (with three on the game's first drive that ended in a turnover on downs) and an interception. His second interception came the drive after Marist took the lead for good in the second quarter, and ended up being Wagner's final offensive play of the first half. Robinson then had three tackles on Wagner's first drive of the second half. The final one came on a fourth-and-one play inside the Marist 10, as he teamed up with Jalen Carpenter for a tackle for loss that resulted in a turnover on downs. In the fourth quarter, Robinson also had a tackle for no gain on Wagner's second-to-last drive, one that ended in a turnover on downs three plays later.

Shannon's 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the second quarter put Marist ahead for good. After Wagner took its first lead of the game at 10-7 with 5:22 left in the second quarter, Shannon returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown for his first collegiate kickoff return touchdown, and the first by a Red Fox since 2022. Shannon finished with 111 all-purpose yards, marking the fifth time in his last six games that he has eclipsed 100.

This is Shannon's second career weekly PFL award, and it is Robinson's first. This is the first time Marist has won two PFL awards in the same week since 2019.

Marist is 2-1, with two victories over full scholarship programs for the first time in program history. After a bye week, Marist opens PFL play on Saturday, Sept. 27 at Butler. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
