Danielle Williamsen recorded the first double-double of her career and senior captain guard
Lexie Tarul scored a game-high 22 points as the Marist University women's basketball team earned a 62-49 win over Rider on Saturday afternoon at McCann Arena.
Williamsen finished with a season-high 20 points while adding career highs of 10 rebounds and seven assists, scoring 14 of her points in the second half to help close it out. Tarul provided the early spark, pouring in 17 first-half points, while senior captain guard
Jackie Piddock scored all 11 of her points after halftime.
Marist improves to 6-10 overall and 3-3 in MAAC play, while Rider falls to 3-13 on the season and 1-6 in conference action.
- The Red Foxes jumped out to an 11-4 lead at the 4:20 mark as Tarul knocked down two early 3-pointers.
- Rider responded with a 10-0 run to close the quarter and take a 17-16 lead.
- Tarul scored 10 first-quarter points, while Williamsen accounted for Marist's remaining six on a pair of 3-pointers.
- The game was tied at 23-23 with 4:18 remaining in the first half.
- Freshman forward Justine Henry closed the quarter with a personal 5-0 run, hitting a mid-range jumper followed by a 3-pointer to give Marist a 30-28 lead at the break.
- Tarul led all scorers with 17 first-half points on 7-for-9 shooting, including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.
- After Rider scored the opening basket of the second half, Marist answered with a 10-2 run to take a 40-32 lead and force a Rider timeout at the 5:54 mark.
- An 11-0 run, highlighted by eight consecutive points from Williamsen and capped by Piddock's second 3-pointer, extended the Red Foxes' advantage to 51-34 with 3:02 remaining.
- Rider closed the quarter on an 8-0 run, trimming the deficit to 51-42.
