Marist Athletics Department Enjoys Strong Semester Academically

Women’s Lacrosse Has Highest GPA in Fall Semester

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist University student-athletes continued their tradition of excellence in the classroom during the Fall 2024 semester.

Highlights

The department's cumulative GPA is the highest overall on record (3.467).
Six teams earned their highest recorded semester GPA: softball (3.720), women's soccer (3.663), and water polo (3.625), baseball (3.515), men's lacrosse (3.495), and men's swimming & diving (3.479).
Of Marist's 23 Division I teams, 14 had a team GPA over 3.5, and three were higher than 3.7.

Top Teams

For the first time on record, women's lacrosse had the department's highest semester GPA (3.763).
The top five teams this semester following women's lacrosse were softball (3.720), women's tennis (3.719), men's tennis (3.691), and women's swimming & diving (3.665).

Success

Of Marist's 633 student-athletes:

541 had at least a 3.0 GPA (85%).
372 were above a 3.5 (59%).
59 had a perfect 4.0 (9%).

Honorees

The following student-athletes were named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District:
- Women's Soccer: Riley Benito, Sophia DeJoia, Olivia Lindsay, Julia Loncar, Gabby Tirado
- Men's Soccer: Caio Cavaletti, Kyle Evans, Arion Ulaj, Chris Verheul
- Volleyball: Sarah Bumstead, Sara Dasic, Mikayla Keefer, Cecilia "CC" Potter-Pessoa
- Football: Will Aaronson, Brandon Furey, Chris Leonardo, Jack Melore, Nate Robinson Jr., TJ Surace, Kade Werner, Ethan Yuska
Football had nine selections to the PFL All-Academic Team, which was the highest total in the league and tied a program record.
In addition to his Academic All-District selection, football's Chris Leonardo was named an FCS ADA Academic All-Star for the second straight year, is a finalist for an FCS ADA Postgraduate Scholarship, was a national finalist for the Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete Award, and was a national semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy. He also was named First Team PFL All-Academic for the third straight year.
Volleyball led the MAAC with 13 selections to the MAAC All-Academic Team.
The following were named MAAC Student-Athlete of the Week:
- Sarah Bumstead, volleyball (Oct. 1).
- Jadin Collins-Roberts, men's basketball (Nov. 12).
- Jackie Piddock, women's basketball (Jan. 7).
