Tarul, Henry Lead Balanced Marist Attack in 71-52 Win Over Niagara

Henry Posts Double-Double as Three Red Foxes Score in Double Figures

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist University women's basketball team tied its season high with 19 assists in a 71-52 win over Niagara on Saturday afternoon at McCann Arena.

Senior captain guard Lexie Tarul scored a team-high 17 points to go along with three rebounds, three assists, four steals, and one block. Freshman forward Justine Henry recorded a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double along with a career-high six steals. Sophomore guard Chloe Escanillas added 11 points (3-for-5 from three), a career-high five assists, and two rebounds to help the Red Foxes improve to 9-14 on the season and 6-7 in MAAC play.
 
FIRST QUARTER
  • Niagara led 9-8 at the media timeout with 4:45 to go in the opening frame as Chasity Wilson knocked down three straight attempts from beyond the arc for the Purple Eagles.
  • The Red Foxes trailed 13-12 after one quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
  • Back-to-back 3-pointers from sophomore guard Chloe Escanillas gave Marist a 21-16 lead, prompting a Niagara timeout at the 7:04 mark.
  • The Red Foxes closed the quarter on a 14-1 run to take a 35-19 lead into the locker room.
THIRD QUARTER
  • Marist outscored Niagara 20-10 in the third quarter to hold a 55-29 advantage heading into the fourth.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • The Purple Eagles outscored the Red Foxes 23-16 in the final frame, but Marist secured the 71-52 victory.
STATS
  • Tarul led the Red Foxes in scoring for the sixth time this season and tied her career high with four steals.
  • Henry recorded her third career double-double and led Marist in rebounding for the ninth time this season. She set a new career high in steals with six while tying her career high with 11 rebounds.
  • Henry has now scored in double figures in five straight games while recording at least one steal in 12 consecutive games.
  • In her second start of the season, Escanillas recorded her second game in double figures and set a career high in assists with five.
  • Junior guard Julia Corsentino scored a season-high nine points on 3-for-3 shooting from beyond the arc.
