Marist Tennis Prepped for Metro Masters This Weekend

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist University men's and women's tennis are set to compete in the 2026 Metro Masters Tournament from Friday, Oct. 2 to Sunday, Oct. 4. Quinnipiac is set to host the competition in Hamden, Connecticut.

The Metro Masters Tournament will determine the men's and women's tennis singles and doubles representatives at the 2026 ITA Conference Masters Championship. The winning individuals and pairs will earn an automatic bid to the 2026 ITA Conference Masters Championship, which will take place from November 5–8, 2026 in Rome, Georgia.
 
LAST TIME OUT: Men
  • Senior Thomas Bevan led the way for the Red Foxes with two victories across singles and doubles play, while sophomore Ivaylo Simeonov, junior Gregor Heinemann, and freshmen Matteo Mejia and Jack Lindstrom each earned singles victories.
  • Marist opened the day with doubles play, earning two victories. Bevan and junior Ethan Hirons picked up a 6-2 win, while Mejia and junior Fateh Singh also earned a 6-2 victory.
  • In singles, Simeonov cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory, while Bevan added a 6-4, 6-4 win. Heinemann earned a 6-1 victory before his opponent retired, and Lindstrom closed out the Red Foxes' singles wins with a 6-3, 6-0 victory
LAST TIME OUT: Women
  • Junior Viktoria Lorentzon led the Marist University women's tennis team with seven combined singles and doubles wins at the West Point Invite this weekend, going a perfect 5-0 in doubles play. Junior Lola Ungerman, senior Caterina Assi, and sophomore Yasmin Asnis each closed the weekend with six total wins, with Ungerman also finishing doubles play undefeated at 5-0.
  • Friday, senior Vihana Shresta and junior Ella Lindsey each picked up singles wins, 8-3 and 8-5. Marist then rolled through doubles, taking two of three matches behind Ungerman/Asnis (6-4) and Lorentzon/Lindsey (6-2), before sweeping its next two doubles matches 3-0 apiece. In the first sweep, Ungerman/Lorentzon won 6-0, Assi/Asnis won 7-5, and Shresta/Lindsey won 6-3. In the second, Ungerman/Lorentzon won 7-6(1), Assi/Asnis won 7-5, and Shresta/Lindsey won 6-3.
  • Saturday, Marist picked up one doubles win, Ungerman/Lorentzon (6-1), before turning it on in singles, winning four matches behind Assi (8-2), Lorentzon (8-2), Ungerman (8-4), and Asnis (8-2). Assi added another singles win, 8-5, later that afternoon.
  • Sunday, Marist swept its doubles matches behind Ungerman/Lorentzon (7-6(5)) and Assi/Asnis (6-3), then closed out the tournament with four more singles wins from Assi (8-6), Lorentzon (8-6), Asnis (8-1), and Lindsey, the latter closing out the weekend with a hard-fought 8-7(10) victory.
