HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The Marist University men's tennis team competed against Fordham at the Hofstra Invitational on Friday, with the originally scheduled three-day event shortened to one day due to weather.
Senior Thomas Bevan led the way for the Red Foxes with two victories across singles and doubles play, while sophomore Ivaylo Simeonov, junior Gregor Heinemann, and freshmen Matteo Mejia and Jack Lindstrom each earned singles victories.
Marist opened the day with doubles play, earning two victories. Bevan and junior Ethan Hirons picked up a 6-2 win, while Mejia and junior Fateh Singh also earned a 6-2 victory.
In singles, Simeonov cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory, while Bevan added a 6-4, 6-4 win. Heinemann earned a 6-1 victory before his opponent retired, and Lindstrom closed out the Red Foxes' singles wins with a 6-3, 6-0 victory.
The remaining two days of competition were canceled due to weather, bringing Marist's weekend at the Hofstra Invitational to a close after Friday's action.
