POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist women's soccer team fell to the Fairfield Stags 5-1 on Wednesday night at Tenney Stadium.Â
Seven minutes into the first half, junior forward Ariana Mullin put Marist on the board early off an assist from sophomore forward Ella Bryan.Â
Fairfield answered in the sixteenth minute, when sophomore forward Amelie Stewart scored to bring the game to a tie. Three minutes later, junior forward Ashley McMahon scored on a penalty kick to put the Stags in the lead.
In the 22nd minute, McMahon tallied a second goal to add to Fairfield's lead.Â
The game went back and forth with offensive attempts from both sides in the second half, but the Stags were the only ones to score. Junior forward Ashlyn Walsh found the back of the net in the 67th minute.
Grad student forward Charlyse Berry added to the Stags' lead in the 76th minute.
The loss drops Marist's record to 4-7-1 overall and 4-2-1 in conference, as the Stags improve to 8-3-1 overall and 6-0 in conference. Â
The Red Foxes play next on Saturday, Oct. 10 as they travel to Canisius. The game is set for a 12 p.m. start.
