PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Marist men's tennis team opened its spring season on the road at Brown, falling to the Bears by a 6-1 final on Sunday afternoon.
In singles play, Freshman
Alejandro Abella Fernandez provided the highlight for the Red Foxes with a straight-set victory at No. 3, earning Marist's lone point of the match.
Sophomore
Ian Layton pushed his opponent at No. 2, and sophomore
Anirudh Nallaparaju forced a deciding super tiebreak at No. 4 before being edged in a tight finish. Graduate student
Jose Catala competed at the top spot, sophomore
Thomas Bevan represented the Red Foxes at No. 5, and sophomore
Gregor Heinemann rounded out the lineup at No. 6.
Brown claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Catala and Nallaparaju competed at the top spot, while Layton and Bevan teamed up at No. 2. Abella Fernandez and Heinemann battled at No. 3 doubles but came up short, 6-3.
