Red Foxes Fall at #17 Army West Point

Kathryn Staker Leads Red Foxes With Four Points

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Marist women's lacrosse team fell to #17 Army West Point, 23-7, on Tuesday afternoon.

Junior attack Kathryn Staker led the Red Foxes with three goals and one assist. Junior captain attack Kate Gaven added two goals and one assist, while sophomore midfielder Amelia Pirozzi and junior attack Gabby Kingston each scored once.

With the loss, Marist moves to 1-1 on the season.
 
FIRST QUARTER
  • Marist opened the scoring as Kingston found the back of the net off an assist from Gaven at the 12:41 mark.
  • Army responded with six straight goals to take a 6-1 lead.
  • Staker added an unassisted goal with 1:55 remaining in the quarter to cut the deficit to 6-2 after one.
SECOND QUARTER
  • Army began the second period with three consecutive goals before Pirozzi scored at the 10:18 mark to make it 9-3.
  • After the Black Knights extended their lead, Staker recorded her second goal of the afternoon with 6:49 remaining in the half.
  • The Red Foxes trailed 15-4 at halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
  • Gaven struck early in the third quarter off an assist from Staker, who then found the back of the net to trim the deficit to 15-6.
  • Army answered with a goal before Gaven finished her second of the day.
  • The Black Knights added two more goals to take a 18-7 lead through three.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • The Black Knights added five more goals in the fourth to secure the 23-7 result.
UP NEXT
  • The Red Foxes return to action at Boston University on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 4:30 p.m.
