BOSTON, Mass. – The Marist University women's lacrosse team was defeated 11-8 by Boston University in a non-conference game on Tuesday evening at Nickerson Field.
The Red Foxes led 5-0 after the first quarter and 8-6 at halftime, but were shut out in the second half as the Terriers rallied to secure the victory.
Sophomore midfielder
Amelia Pirozzi led Marist with five points on four goals and one assist. Junior attack
Kathryn Staker recorded a hat trick with three goals, while junior midfielder
Madison Leale also found the back of the net.
Marist falls to 1-2 on the season, while BU improves to 3-1.

- Pirozzi opened the scoring at 13:51 and doubled the Red Foxes' lead at 11:50.
- Staker extended the advantage to 3-0 at the 5:00 mark off an assist from Pirozzi. She struck again at 1:08, assisted by Megan Shanahan.
- Leale capped the quarter with a goal off a feed from Mia Fernandes with 31 seconds remaining as Marist carried a 5-0 lead into the second.
- Boston University got on the board at 12:13 and added two free-position goals at 10:25 and 7:06 to cut the deficit to 5-3.
- The Terriers followed with two more goals at 5:49 and 4:37 to even the score at 5-5.
- Marist responded as Pirozzi netted back-to-back goals at 3:35 and 2:28 to give the Red Foxes a 7-5 lead.
- The Terriers countered with a goal at 2:04 before Staker completed her first-half hat trick with 56 seconds remaining, sending Marist into halftime with an 8-6 advantage.
- BU pulled within one with a woman-up goal at 5:17 and tied the game at 8-8 on a free-position goal with 3:52 left in the quarter.
- The Terriers took their first lead of the game at the 2:02 mark, making it 9-8 entering the fourth.
- Boston University added goals at 8:37 and 6:53 to extend its lead to 11-8.
- Marist was unable to answer in the final frame.
- The Red Foxes return to action at the University of Vermont on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 10:00 a.m.Â
