Marist Falls to Vermont, 14-9

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist University women's lacrosse team fell to Vermont, 14-9, on Saturday afternoon at Tenney Stadium.

Junior captain attack Anne Shine recorded two goals, including her first of the season, while senior attack Jesse Manger added two goals. Junior attack Kathryn Staker, junior captain attack Kate Gaven, senior captain midfielder Caitlin McNaboe, junior midfielder Madison Leale, and sophomore midfielder Amelia Pirozzi each scored once.

With the loss, Marist moves to 1-3 on the season.

FIRST QUARTER
  • Vermont opened the scoring at the 10:29 mark before Marist answered at 4:28 as Leale finished off a feed from Manger to even the score.
  • The Catamounts regained the lead with 2:31 remaining in the frame to take a 2-1 advantage after one.
SECOND QUARTER
  • Vermont extended its lead with a goal at 12:51, but Shine responded just 48 seconds later, finishing an assist from Pirozzi for her first goal of the season.
  • After the Catamounts pushed the lead to 4-2, Staker found the back of the net at 4:52 to cut the deficit to one. Vermont added a late goal at 3:30 as Marist trailed 5-3 at halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
  • The Red Foxes opened the half with back-to-back goals as Manger scored off a feed from Staker at 14:34, and McNaboe followed at 12:58 on an assist from Shine to tie the game at 5-5.
  • Vermont answered with a goal at 12:18, but Gaven converted a woman-up opportunity off another assist from Staker to knot the score at 6-6.
  • The Catamounts regained control with consecutive goals at 6:54 and 6:07.
  • Pirozzi responded with a woman-down goal at 4:26, her 10th of the season, but Vermont closed the quarter with two late scores to take a 10-7 lead into the fourth.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • Vermont scored four straight goals to open the final frame and extend its advantage.
  • Shine converted a woman-up opportunity at 1:42 off an assist from McNaboe, and Manger added a late goal, but the Catamounts secured the 14-9 victory.
