Shine Nets Hat Trick as Marist Falls to Hofstra, 14-8

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist University women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference game to Hofstra, 14-8, on Thursday afternoon at Tenney Stadium.

Junior captain attack Anne Shine recorded a hat trick with three goals. Senior captain midfielder Caitlin McNaboe and sophomore midfielder Amelia Pirozzi each scored twice, while junior captain attack Kate Gaven added one goal.
 
FIRST QUARTER
  • Marist struck first as Pirozzi scored at 13:22.
  • Hofstra answered at the 10:52 mark to even the score at 1-1.
SECOND QUARTER
  • The Pride opened the quarter with a goal at 13:30 to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Shine responded at 7:55 to tie the game at 2-2.
  • McNaboe gave Marist a 3-2 advantage at 6:26 off an assist from senior attack Jesse Manger.
  • Hofstra closed the half with back-to-back goals at 2:22 and 1:50 to take a 4-3 lead into the break.
THIRD QUARTER
  • Hofstra extended its lead to 5-3 with a goal at 13:55.
  • McNaboe answered less than a minute later, finishing a feed from Gaven to cut the deficit to 5-4.
  • The Pride scored three consecutive goals to push the margin to 8-4.
  • Gaven scored with six seconds remaining off an assist from Pirozzi, making it 8-5 entering the fourth.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • Hofstra added two early goals to extend its lead to 10-5.
  • Pirozzi scored at 10:01 off an assist from junior attack Kathryn Staker to make it 10-6.
  • After a free-position goal by the Pride pushed the lead to 11-6, Shine scored twice to complete the hat trick and cut the deficit to 11-8 with 6:21 remaining.
  • Hofstra closed the game with three goals to secure the 14-8 victory.
