EMMITSBURG, Md. – The Marist University women's tennis team fell to Mount St. Mary's, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon.
Mount St. Mary's claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Sophomore Viktoria Lorentzon and freshman Tessa Wachtel dropped a 6-4 decision at No. 1 doubles, while junior Caterina Assi and junior Vihana Shresta fell 6-2 at No. 2. Senior Cloe Clements Sorde and sophomore Lola Ungerman earned a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Assi secured a straight-set win at No. 1, defeating Perkins 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Yasmin Asnis also earned a point for the Red Foxes with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 5.
Lorentzon battled through three sets at No. 2 before falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Ungerman was edged at No. 3, falling 7-6 (4), 6-1. The match at No. 4 featuring Clements Sorde was unfinished with her trailing 7-6 (8), 3-4 when play was halted. Wachtel fell 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6.
