NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. – The Marist University women's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over Niagara on Saturday evening at Sportsplex New Windsor.
The Red Foxes set the tone early by sweeping the doubles point. Sophomore Viktoria Lorentzon and freshman Tessa Wachtel earned a 7-5 win at No. 1, while junior Caterina Assi and freshman Yasmin Asnis followed with a 6-3 victory at No. 2. Senior Cloe Clements Sorde and sophomore Lola Ungerman led 5-1 at No. 3 before the match was halted after the point was secured.
Marist carried that momentum into singles, winning five of six matches. Assi earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 1, while Clements Sorde posted a 7-6 (6), 6-2 victory at No. 3. Ungerman added a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 4.
Asnis battled back for a 1-6, 7-5, 10-6 win at No. 5, and sophomore Ella Lindsey secured a 7-5 retirement win at No. 6. Lorentzon dropped a three-set match at No. 2, falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
