Box Score NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. – The Marist University women's tennis team rallied from a 3-0 deficit to earn a 4-3 victory over Sacred Heart at Sportsplex New Windsor on Sunday evening.
Sacred Heart opened the match by sweeping the doubles point. Sophomore Viktoria Lorentzon and freshman Tessa Wachtel dropped a tight 7-6 (6) decision at No. 1, while freshman Yasmin Asnis and junior Caterina Assi fell 6-3 at No. 2. Senior Cloe Clements Sorde and sophomore Lola Ungerman earned a 6-2 win at No. 3, but the Pioneers secured the early lead.
Trailing 1-0, Marist dropped the first two singles matches to fall behind 3-0 before mounting a comeback. Clements Sorde started the rally with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3. Ungerman followed with a three-set victory at No. 4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Asnis added another point with a 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-0 win at No. 5, and junior Vihana Shresta clinched the match with a 7-6 (4), 6-3 victory at No. 6.
The comeback was completed as Marist claimed four straight singles matches to secure the 4-3 win.
