Women's Lacrosse Drops Overtime Contest to Niagara on Senior Day

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist University women's lacrosse team fell in overtime to Niagara, 10-9, on Saturday afternoon at Tenney Stadium.

Prior to the game, Marist honored its six graduating seniors: Amelia Angelo, Aubrey Monroe, Shannon Maier, Caitlin McNaboe, Morgan Carroll, and Jesse Manger.

Junior captain attack Kate Gaven led the Red Foxes with four goals and one assist. Senior attack Jesse Manger added four assists. Sophomore midfielder Amelia Pirozzi recorded two goals and one assist, while junior midfielder Madison Leale, senior captain midfielder Caitlin McNaboe, and junior captain attack Anne Shine each scored once.

FIRST QUARTER
  • Marist struck first as Shine found the back of the net off an assist from Gaven at 13:41.
  • Niagara answered with a free-position goal at 11:06 and followed with three more scores to take a 4-1 lead after one.
SECOND QUARTER
  • Niagara extended its lead to 5-1 at the 10:38 mark.
  • McNaboe responded less than 30 seconds later off an assist from Manger, and Pirozzi added a free-position goal at 7:00 to cut the deficit to two.
  • Leale scored at 2:34 off a feed from Manger to bring the Red Foxes within one at 5-4 heading into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
  • Gaven opened the second half with a goal at 13:10 off an assist from Pirozzi to tie the game at 5-5, and added another just under a minute later to give Marist its first lead since the opening quarter.
  • Niagara responded with goals at 5:20 and 4:24 to regain a 7-6 advantage.
  • Gaven completed her hat trick at 3:32 off an assist from Manger to even the score at 7-7 entering the fourth.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • Niagara took an 8-7 lead at 12:33 before Pirozzi tied the game at 5:23 with her second goal of the afternoon.
  • The Purple Eagles regained the lead at 2:08, but Gaven answered just 38 seconds later with her fourth goal of the game, assisted by Manger, to force overtime.
OVERTIME
  • Niagara scored less than a minute into overtime to secure the 10-9 victory.
UP NEXT
  • The Red Foxes travel to Fairfield to conclude the regular season on Saturday, April 18 at 4 p.m.
