Softball Earns Doubleheader Sweep Against Monmouth

Wiltsie, Manory Homer in Each Game

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist University softball team earned a non-conference doubleheader sweep against Monmouth at Gartland Field on Wednesday.
 
Marist won the first game 11-3 in five innings, and the Red Foxes earned a 6-3 triumph in game two.
 
Game One Summary
  • Carah Sumpter's two-run single gave Monmouth a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
  • Marist scored four in the bottom of the first, thanks to three home runs. Peyton Pusey and Isabella Manory went back-to-back to lead off the game, and Livia Wiltsie hit a two-run blast three batters later.
  • Olivia Smith's homer cut Marist's lead to 4-3 in the second, the Red Foxes scored three in the bottom half on a two-run single by Haley Ahr and an RBI single by Samantha Rogers.
  • Sienna Kunze's bases-loaded walk in the third forced home Pusey, which gave Marist an 8-3 lead.
  • Marist closed out the game with a three-run fifth. Ahr drove home Marissa Scarano, and Rogers brought home Pusey and Anna Sidlowski with a single.
 
Game One Stats
  • Pusey reached safely in all four plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with four runs scored and a walk.
  • Ahr and Rogers both had two hits and three RBIs.
  • Kunze and Scarano each scored twice and walked twice.
  • Emma Bayor started and went the first three innings to earn the win. Just one of the three runs she allowed was earned. Ava Metzger pitched two scoreless innings of relief with four strikeouts.
 
Gamw Two Summary
  • Marist scored three in the bottom of the first. Pusey drew a walk to lead off the game, and Ahr drove her home with a double. Wiltsie followed with a two-run homer two batters later.
  • Marist added three more in the third. Kunze started a two-out rally with a single, which was followed by a Wiltsie double. Manory followed with a three-run homer.
  • Monmouth scored once in the fourth, and closed out the scoring in the fifth with a two-run homer by Clare Picone.
 
Game Two Stats
  • Manory drove in a game-high three runs.
  • Wiltsie went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
  • Kaylie DeChicchis started, and did not a hit or a walk while striking out two in three innings.
  • Stella Blanchard earned the win by pitching the sixth and seventh. She struck out five and allowed just one hit.
 
Notes
  • Marist has now won six straight and 11 out of 12. The Red Foxes now have three winning streak of at least five games this season.
  • From the start of Saturday's game at Quinnipiac through her first at bat in game two against Monmouth, Pusey reached base in nine consecutive plate appearances.
  • Manory and Wiltsie homered in both games.
  • Bayor's game one win was the first of her collegiate career.
  • Blanchard earned her 10th win of the season.
  • In her last six games, Ahr is 11-for-19 (.579) with 11 RBIs.
  • Marist is 11-2 at Gartland Field this season.
