FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Marist University women's tennis team fell to Fairfield, 5-2, in MAAC action on Thursday afternoon.
Fairfield opened the match by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Sophomore Viktoria Lorentzon and freshman Tessa Wachtel fell 6-3 at No. 1, while freshman Yasmin Asnis and junior Caterina Assi dropped a 6-3 decision at No. 2. The No. 3 pair of senior Cloe Clements Sorde and sophomore Lola Ungerman trailed 5-2 before the match went unfinished.
In singles play, Marist earned two points. Assi picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1, while Clements Sorde rallied for a 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3.
Fairfield secured the team victory with wins at No. 2, No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6. Lorentzon fell in three sets at No. 2, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6. Ungerman was edged at No. 4, 7-5, 4-6, 4-6, and Asnis dropped a three-set match at No. 5, 6-3, 1-6, 3-6. Junior Vihana Shresta fell 6-3, 7-5 at No. 6.
