PRINCETON, N.J. – The historic season for the Marist men's lacrosse team came to a close on Sunday afternoon, as the Red Foxes fell to top-seeded Princeton Tigers, 17-8, in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament at Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.
Marist finishes the 2026 campaign with a 12-5 overall record, marking the second-most wins in a season in program history. The Red Foxes also captured their fifth MAAC Championship this season, the most conference titles in MAAC men's lacrosse history.
The Tigers opened the game with the first two goals before sophomore
Peter Murray put Marist on the board off an assist from
Sean Mullan with 6:01 left in the first quarter. Princeton responded with three straight goals to build a 5-1 advantage before
Jayce Konowitz answered with a goal off a feed from
Drew Anderson. The Tigers added one more score late in the opening quarter to take a 6-2 lead after one.
Princeton extended its lead to 8-2 midway through the second quarter, but the Red Foxes battled back with consecutive goals from Anderson and Konowitz to cut the deficit to 8-4 heading into halftime.
The top-seeded Tigers took control in the third quarter, outscoring Marist 8-0 in the frame to open a 16-4 lead entering the fourth. Princeton was led offensively by Chad Palumbo's six goals, while Nate Kabiri added three goals and five assists.
Marist continued to fight in the final quarter, scoring four of the final five goals of the game. Steven Cain, Anderson, Murray, and Collin Patrick each found the back of the net during the stretch.
Anderson paced the Red Foxes with four points on two goals and two assists, while Murray and Konowitz each scored twice. Patrick added a goal and an assist, and Richie Metzger made 11 saves in net.
The NCAA Tournament appearance marked another milestone season for Marist, which earned its second NCAA Tournament victory in program history earlier in the week with a First Four win over Stony Brook before advancing to face the nation's top seed.
