Marist Baseball Advances to Day Two of the MAAC Championships

The Red Foxes Battle Merrimack Thursday Evening

WAPPINGERS FALLS, New York – Marist Baseball moves onto day two of the MAAC Championships, where they will face Merrimack at 7:00 p.m. ET. In a win-or-go-home game, the Red Foxes look to stay alive and advance to day three.
 
MAAC CHAMPIONSHIPS: DAY ONE
  • The Red Foxes opened the MAAC Championships, where they faced Fairfield on Wednesday morning and lost by a final score of 6-3.
    • Luke Monico led the offense with one hit and one RBI, highlighted by a solo homerun.
    • On the mound Andrew Speranza pitched 3.2 innings of relief allowing four hits, one earned run, and struck out four batters.
  • In their second game of the day, Marist took on Canisius, where they quickly jumped out to an early lead to win by a final score of 10-8.
    • A fourth-inning grand slam from Luke Monico led the offensive explosion.
    • Tyler Hartley started the game and went 3.0 innings, only allowing five hits, zero earned runs, and struck out one batter.
SCOUTING MERRIMACK
  • The Warriors come into the tournament as the #4 seed after finishing the regular season with a 20-10 conference record.
  • In round one of the MAAC Championships, they battled #4 Canisius on Wednesday afternoon.
    • Merrimack showed dominance on the mound to shut out Canisius and won 7-0.
  • After a win on day one, they moved on to play the #1 seed Rider Broncs on Thursday morning.
    • The Warriors led for most of the game but faltered late, losing 8-2.
  • Player to watch: Joey Frammartino.
    • Frammartino led the Warriors' offense, slashing a .317 average and .963 OPS.
    • He racked up 54 RBIs, seven homeruns, and 11 doubles on 59 hits in the regular season.
    • So far he is 2-8 with two RBIs, in the tournament.
MARIST VS MERRIMACK: REGULAR SEASON
  • The Red Foxes and Warriors matched up for three games in late April, where Marist lost two out of three over the weekend.
    • Game one: 8-0, loss.
    • Game two: 18-3, win.
    • Game three: 13-7, loss.

  • In a do-or-die game, the winner will go on to day three, where they will play at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, against the loser of Niagara vs Fairfield.
