LIMA, Peru – Recent Marist graduate Amari Mathis wrapped up a terrific week of competition representing Team USA at the FISU America Games.
 
Thursday, July 30

• In the 100-meter semifinals, Mathis posted a time of 10.48 seconds, which earned him a spot in the final.
• In the 100 final, he finished fifth in 10.52 seconds.
• His time of 21.71 seconds in the 200 semifinal earned him a spot in Friday's final.

 
Friday, July 31

• Placed sixth in the 200 final with a time of 21.57 seconds.
• Placed second in the 4 X 100 men's relay.

 
Saturday, Aug. 1

• Ran the leadoff leg of the mixed 4 X 100 relay. Unfortunately, the relay was disqualified as a result of the exchange from the second to third legs.

 
Marist track & field assistant coach Alisha Samuel served as an assistant coach for Team USA at the Games.
 
"Overall, it was a great week for Amari and Coach Alisha in Peru," Marist Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Pete Colaizzo said. "Having them represent Team USA so well means a lot to our program and in many ways was a dream come true for Marist Track. We will miss Amari's greatness, and we are glad he was able to add one final chapter to what was a storybook track career."
 
The FISU America Games features top collegiate athletes from North, Central, and South America.
 
Mathis, who earned Marist's 2026 Male Sportsperson Award, completed his collegiate career as a four-time MAAC gold medalist and school record holder in six events. He was named the MAAC Outdoor Track Performer of the Meet in 2025.
