Mike Willis has announced the Red Foxes' captains for the 2026 season. Graduate quarterback
Sonny Mannino, senior linebacker
Kade Werner, and running back
Lincoln Cardillo were selected for this prestigious honor.

Mannino was named a captain for the second straight year. Werner and Cardillo are first-time captains.

"I am so fired up that our players selected Sonny, Kade, and Lincoln to be our captains for the 2026 season," Willis said. "They have worked extremely hard to uphold our standard of mindset, energy, and toughness, and to try and elevate our program to a championship standard on an everyday basis."

Mannino was named this year's Pioneer Football League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year by Phil Steele Publications. He has been named to the PFL Academic Honor Roll each of the last four years, was a Second Team Academic All-PFL selection last year, and has been part of Marist's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee the last two years. An Honorable Mention All-PFL selection the last two years, Mannino enters this season with 18 career starts at quarterback.

Werner has been both a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection and PFL Academic Honor Roll honoree each of the last two seasons. He has appeared in all 23 of Marist's games the last two seasons, and he has ranked second on the team in tackles in both years.

Cardillo is a three-time selection to the PFL Academic Honor Roll. He was Marist's nominee for this season's Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, which highlights his outstanding work in the community. He has appeared in 15 career games, including all 11 in the 2024 season.

The Marist football team opens its 2026 season on Friday, Aug. 28, when the Red Foxes travel to New Haven for a 6 p.m. kickoff. The first of the Red Foxes' six games at Tenney Stadium is set for Friday, Sept. 4 against Franklin Pierce at 7 p.m.
