Marist Football Falls at New Haven by One

Red Foxes Score Touchdowns in All Three Phases

WEST HAVEN, Connecticut – The Marist University football team fell at New Haven by a score of 22-21 in the season opener for both teams on Friday night.
 
Summary
  • New Haven opened the scoring on a 38-yard field goal by Liam Quigley with 8:57 left in the first quarter.
  • Sonny Mannino's five-yard rushing touchdown gave Marist the lead at the 1:54 mark of the first quarter. This culminated a nine-play, 70-yard drive, and the Red Foxes led 7-3 after 15 minutes.
  • Jordan Caldwell's pick-six gave Marist a 14-3 lead just 1:14 into the second quarter.
  • AJ Duffy's 39-yard touchdown pass to Isaac Glaudin cut New Haven's deficit to 14-10 with 3:58 left until the half. The Red Foxes took a 14-10 lead to the locker room.
  • Just 49 seconds into the second half, Dylan Gilmore blocked a punt that Zach Garmont recovered for a touchdown, which put Marist up 21-10.
  • New Haven then closed the game with 12 unanswered points. In the third quarter, Quigly hit a 35-yard field goal, and Duffy threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to Nate Burleson II. The Red Foxes led 21-19 entering the fourth, but Quigley's 19-yard field goal with 4:07 left accounted for the game's final points.
