POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – A uniform that has been synonymous with growth and achievement in Marist football history is making its return.
 
For the first time since 2004, the Red Foxes will wear black legacy uniforms for their home opener against Franklin Pierce on Friday at 7 p.m.
 
Black was Marist's home jersey color from 1990 through 2004. During this era, the Red Foxes won their first two league championships (1990, 1994), made the jump to Division I (1993), and put together a streak of seven consecutive winning seasons (1994-2001).
 
Growth and achievement have been hallmarks of head coach Mike Willis' program since he was officially hired on Dec. 19, 2023. The Red Foxes have progressed on the field while setting numerous academic, fundraising, and weight room records. For multiple reasons, black uniforms have been a priority for him.
 
"Black jerseys connect us to the history of our program; our alumni who wore black uniforms during their career have been passionate about being back in black since my first day on the job," Willis said. "I'm grateful for the generosity of our alumni in providing these black uniforms. Our players will wear them with pride!"
 
Friday's black jersey will feature white numbers with red trim. This look most closely resembles the initial black jersey that was introduced in 1990. The Red Foxes will wear black pants, and the black-on-black look was the program's predominant one from 1995 through 2004. The helmet will be the customary one that the team has worn since Willis' arrival, as the Marist logo mark has been featured along with red and black stripes for the past three seasons.
 
Friday's game will be a Black Out, as fans are asked to wear black in support of the Red Foxes. Add in postgame fireworks sponsored by Northwestern Mutual, and Friday night promises to have an electric atmosphere at Tenney Stadium.
